Our Story
The Problem
The city of Melbourne prides itself on its supposedly superior public transport system, yet thousands are regularly neglected by this very system. A yearly concession travel pass costs approximately $800 and to a high school student - that is a lot of money.
Not being able to afford public transportation costs to go to school causes a lot of anxiety and stress. As a result, they have trouble focusing on school and remaining engaged with their studies, limiting their ability to reach their full academic potential.
To give you a small glimpse of the problem, over 165,000 families in Victoria alone struggle with the financial burden posed by Myki fares.
This is where we step in.
The “Lightbulb” Moment
It all began with a spark of compassion inside a single person who was bold enough to make a difference in the world.
Education is widely described as the great equaliser of our society, so it was disheartening to still have to witness the disparity in educational opportunities for the future generation hindered by something as insignificant as public transport costs.
The amusing irony of a child’s travel expenses to access education being funded by profits from decorating the very thing that posed a barrier to these students in the first place, the Myki card, was the final push that we needed.
Thus, Cards for a Cause was born and everything else, as they say, is history.
Who We Are
Cards for a Cause is a social enterprise that transforms the bland, grey canvas of a Myki card into a story of social change.
Our business model focuses on creating and selling unique stickers with pre-made or custom designs to provide public transport access to disadvantaged students. We’re a passionate bunch who firmly believe that every single child deserves a chance at unlocking their full potential through the power of education.
YOUR Role in Our Story
You get to transform your Myki card into a beacon of change and hope with a simple sticker.
By purchasing one of our stickers - designed by local artists or personalised by you - you are making a valuable contribution towards combating an acute issue impacting youth education. 100% of the profits from the sales of these stickers are directly channeled towards Myki passes for disadvantaged school students.
